Emma Wortelboer ends the year with a flat hand in the face of TV colleague Gordon. She thinks he seems quite manic lately. “This is really bad diabolical?”
It is almost 2023 and that is the last year of Gordon’s lucrative TV contract with Talpa. Expectations are very low, as the entertainer has hardly achieved respectable ratings in four years. In fact, according to entertainment connoisseur Victor Vlam, he has even given John de Mol a million-dollar noose.
Manic
The chance that they will still dare to take on large and expensive projects with Gordon at SBS 6 seems nil. It is possible that it will be a chore in his last months. For example, he is now also put on the presentation of The Best Idea of the Netherlands, a program that has always been done by interchangeable presenters such as Charly Luske and Henkjan Smits.
According to Emma, the candidate call with which Gordon can now be seen (see below) really looks like a must. “I think it’s a bit manic,” she says in the New Year’s Eve special Media Inside. “It kind of feels like he’s cynically ordering this. Where is he? Where is he?”
Diabolical
Fellow guest Britt Dekker jumps into the breach for her Talpa colleague. According to her, Gordon radiates that he ‘really wants to work’ and she approves of that. “I don’t see that,” commented opinion maker Marcel van Roosmalen.
Emma: “I don’t see that either.”
Presenter Gijs Groenteman: “Gordon is someone who keeps saying goodbye, but prefers new programs all the time. That’s a weird kind of contradiction.”
Emma: “That’s really bad diabolical? I just find that very strange.”
Gijs: “Well, it’s Gordon. I don’t necessarily feel a safe working environment, but hey: maybe it’s not all that bad.”
Final goodbye
Hopefully Gordon will really say goodbye to showbiz in 2023, says Gijs. “Meanwhile, I actually hope and expect every year that Gordon will say goodbye to Dutch public life, because yes: that is often announced, isn’t it, Gordon’s farewell.”
He continues: “Then he is depressed again or he goes to Dubai again or he stops singing again. It’s hard in the end though. He is now back with a program and now he is looking for resourceful people. (…) I find it a bit scary.”
