Hertha’s ex-goalkeeper Wolfgang Fahrian is dead

Wolfgang Fahrian, former goalkeeper of Hertha BSC and the national soccer team, is dead.

The German World Cup goalkeeper from 1962 died of pneumonia at the age of 80 on Wednesday night. This was announced by his ex-clubs Fortuna Düsseldorf and Fortuna Cologne. The people of Düsseldorf referred to the family. Between 1964 and 1966 Fahrian was active for Hertha BSC.

He played for Fortuna Cologne for most of his career in the 1970s. From the early 1960s he was also active for TSG Ulm – the forerunner club of SSV Ulm, Hertha, TSV Munich 1860 and Fortuna Düsseldorf. At the beginning of his career he was also a regular keeper for the national team.

After his playing career, Fahrian worked as a players’ agent. After a heart attack in 2009, Fahrian largely withdrew from the public eye.
