After more than 26 years, the Hertha chapter is finally over for Michael Preetz!

The ex-Hertha manager (54/on leave in January 2021) and the capital club’s personnel committee have agreed on an early termination of the contract. The contract would have run until the summer of 2023.

“The contracting parties have ended their cooperation in the best mutual agreement,” Hertha tweeted.

Preetz (annual salary: 1.2 million euros) receives a severance payment and is immediately free on the market again. The following can be heard from those around him: After a 16-month break, Preetz is full of energy and ready for new tasks in the football business.

Exciting, where will he be at Hertha in the future after more than a quarter of a century?

Michael Preetz signed his first contract as a Hertha player in the summer of 1996 as a professional. The ex-striker is still the top Hertha Bundesliga goalscorer of all time with 84 goals.

From 2003 he worked as an assistant to ex-manager Dieter Hoeneß (69), before taking over the helm himself in 2009 as the main person responsible. In January 2021 he had to retire prematurely at the same time as the then coach Bruno Labbadia (65).

Now Preetz is ready for a new start!
