2nd entry for 2023/24
As expected, Hertha BSC made the signing of Fabian Reese (25) perfect. The Berliners announced on Wednesday that the professional from Holstein Kiel would move to the Spree on a free transfer after the end of the season, when his contract with the northern club expires. His working paper for the “Old Lady” will be valid until 2026. Reese is Hertha’s second signing for the coming season after the transfer of Augsburg’s Florian Niederlechner (32) was announced on Tuesday.

Until recently, there had been reports that Reese could come to the capital in winter, but both clubs still had to come to an agreement. Holstein’s transfer fee is said to have been just under one million euros. “Fabian Reese has developed very well in recent seasons and played in the focus of some clubs. We are pleased that he has decided to join Hertha BSC,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic about the commitment and added: “He is a fast, dynamic striker who can play both on the wing and in the centre.”
Lukébakio in third place: Hertha BSC’s most expensive additions
The “picture“ reported that in addition to Hertha, eight other clubs were interested in Reese. Accordingly, FC Augsburg, 1. FC Köln and Schalke 04 were also looking for a commitment, and VfL Wolfsburg should at least have expressed an interest. The attacker is said to have been targeted by Prague clubs Sparta and Slavia, while offers are said to have come from Italy from US Cremonese and US Lecce.
Reese has played 17 games this season, in which he contributed five goals and four assists, making him Kiel’s second-best scorer. Since moving from Schalke 04 to Holstein in January 2020 for €100,000, he has made 102 appearances (eleven goals/24 assists). The former DFB junior was able to increase his market value this season from one million to 1.7 million euros – the highest in the KSV squad.
