Gathered “plenty of experience”
After staying up, Hertha BSC presented the first external new signing for the coming season. As the capital city club announced on Tuesday, central defender Filip Uremovic is coming to the “old lady” and has signed a working paper that is valid until 2026. The 25-year-old is said to be a replacement for Niklas Stark (27), who is moving to Werder Bremen, and whose number 5 he will also receive.
Hertha was already interested in Uremovic last winter, but the fee requested by the former regular club Rubin Kazan was too high. After Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine, the Croatian used the special transfer window to go on loan to Championship club Sheffield United. After Kazan’s relegation from the Premier League, Uremovic is on a free transfer as the contract, which originally ran until 2024, was only valid for the first division.
“With Filip Uremovic, we have a player who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in various leagues. In addition to his flexibility, we are impressed by his robustness in duels and his leadership on the pitch, which he not least demonstrated as captain of his former club. We are very happy that Filip has decided to move to Berlin,” said sporting director Fredi Bobic. Uremovic added: “I want to take the next step in my career, continue to improve and help the team – that’s why I’m here.”
