Hertha BSC pushes reconstruction for the 2nd division – Pál Dárdai relies on talent

Niederlechner confirms whereabouts

At Hertha BSC, planning for the coming season continues despite the pending license for the 2nd Bundesliga. As coach Pál Dárdai confirmed after the 2-1 win on the last day of the Bundesliga game at VfL Wolfsburg, attacking player Stevan Jovetic will leave the club in the capital. “We know he’s not staying next year. He has already given everything and helped. We can’t keep him,” said Dárdai about the 33-year-old Montenegrin, who was no longer part of the Berlin squad on Saturday.

As the Berliners announced on Sunday, loan player Chidera Ejuke (25), currently on loan from CSKA Moscow, will not stay in Berlin. It had previously been clear that Ivan Sunjic (26), who had already been suspended, had no future at Hertha after his verbal dispute with coach Dárdai and was returning to Birmingham City. A farewell to striker Dodi Lukébakio (25), who Dárdai also did without in Wolfsburg, is also expected. Among other things, Hertha has to achieve a high transfer surplus for the license to be granted.

“Ibo was my player in the U16s,” explained Dárdai. “I said to him at the time: If you keep being so lazy, you won’t get anywhere. You have a talent like no other in the Hertha BSC youth team. This is indescribable. A talent from God. Since then the boy has been really busy. It’s fun coming on.”

Whether the 47-year-old Hungarian coach Berlin will be decided next week. “The young players are good at Hertha BSC. You have to give them a chance and have a bit of patience. That is the Hertha way,” Dárdai looked ahead. “Very good goalkeeper performance, dedication, discipline, youth players: If Hertha had shown this face earlier, we wouldn’t have to be so sad today.”

The start of training after the upcoming summer vacation will be at Hertha on June 26, as media boss Marcus Jung confirmed. “Next week you’ll find out whether we’re going to continue working or not,” said club icon Dárdai about his own future.
