For coach Tayfun Korkut, Hertha BSC is still number one in football in the capital – despite the better sporting record of rival Union Berlin.
“I think Union has done very well in recent years,” said the Hertha coach before the cup derby on Wednesday (8:45 p.m. / ARD and Sky): “Nevertheless, if you look at history and Hertha, then I think you already know who the number one in town is.”
But you have to “keep bringing that back onto the pitch and proving it a bit again. Now we have the opportunity to take this step,” said Korkut at a press conference on Monday.
“We want to win the game,” stressed Korkut. Above all, “a lot of passion and courage” is required: “The anticipation for me and the team is great.” The 2-0 loss at the city rivals in November in the league was “not dealt with at all” beforehand.
There will be no tactics
The game no longer plays a role for sporting director Fredi Bobic either: “It’s a different situation now. There won’t be any tactics either, because there can only be one winner.” Bobic expects a “contested game”.
As the club in the capital announced, the game will probably come too early for Stevan Jovetic (calf problems). Defender Peter Pekarik and goalkeeper Oliver Christensen are still in isolation after positive tests, but could still be tested. In addition, goalkeeper Rune Jarstein (rehabilitation training) is still missing.
