Just one win
Lucas Tousart (25) associates the upswing at Hertha BSC with the new president Kay Bernstein and coach Sandro Schwarz. Although the capital club is still directly in front of the relegation zone in the table with only one win of the season, they have only recorded one defeat from the last six games. “To be honest, the change of coach was more important for us players. But we also got closer to the viewers, for example. The fact that the President is also a fan means he understands the importance of fan support to us. Presidents usually wear suits, he wears this blue Hertha fan jacket. He’s an approachable president,” said the French midfielder in an interview withBerlin newspaper“.
Schwarz took office in the summer and has since scored an average of 0.73 points in eleven games – only Peter Neururer and Tayfun Korkut have had a weaker rate with a similar number of games in the club’s history to date (see overview). Despite this balance, the work of Schwarz, who took over the post at Hertha from Felix Magath, is bearing fruit: “Now we have stability. The new trainer brings a clear line to daily training. We should have won some games. Things are going well on the pitch. We work well together, we have an idea of the game. However, it could be better in terms of results,” said Tousart. During the first ten days of the game, it wasn’t “that we always clearly lost”.

Tousart came to Hertha from Olympique Lyon in the summer of 2020. The Berliners had signed the right foot months earlier for the record sum of 25 million euros. The Frenchman emphasized that the amount of the fee “didn’t really” bother him. “The contract came about before Corona. The market was different back then,” he said. However, his start failed. “It was challenging. In the first two years, I think I had five different coaches. That wasn’t good for stability. The game systems have changed, it was difficult to adapt to them again and again,” said Tousart.

The professional found it difficult to adapt to the game in the Bundesliga during the first season: “It goes back and forth. There are many duels. There is a lot of walking. It’s about possession, lots of counterattacks. It’s a different game compared to Ligue 1.” In the meantime, however, he feels he has arrived in the league. Since his move, Tousart has had seven goals in 72 games for Hertha, and his market value has fallen by more than half during this time.
