Hertha BSC loses to promoted team Wiesbaden

Hertha BSC is not yet really getting going in the second half of the season. The Berliners lost to newly promoted Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday. Things are looking bleak for VfL Osnabrück.

With a defeat in their luggage, Hertha BSC begins the journey home from Hesse to Berlin. The capital club lost 1:3 (0:1) to newly promoted Wehen Wiesbaden on Saturday. Franko Kovačević gave the home team the lead with a brace (24th and 53rd minutes). Jonjoe Kenny was able to shorten the score for Hertha (59′), before Thijmen Goppel made the final score (72′).

Hertha remains stuck in the middle of the table due to the away defeat. The Berliners are in tenth place, one point ahead of Wiesbaden. The promotion and relegation places are currently far away with eight and nine points respectively.

In the table cellar, the noose around VfL Osnabrück is tightening ever more. The Lower Saxony team couldn’t get past a 0-0 (0-0) draw at home against SC Paderborn. However, they played in the majority in the 17th minute. Paderborn’s Kai Klefisch had seen the yellow-red card. Osnabrück is last with ten points.

Hansa Rostock is two places ahead of VfL. The “Kogge” was able to get three points late at home against SV Elversberg. In the end it was 2:1 (0:1). Luca Schnellbacher headed the visitors’ lead shortly before half-time (41′). In the second half, Hansa equalized through Dennis Dressel (69th), before Kai Pröger converted a penalty shortly before the end to make the decision. SVE defender Frederik Jäkel saw red for the previous handball.

With the win, Rostock moves level with Schalke 04 in the relegation battle. The Gelsenkirchen team lost 4-1 at Kaiserslautern yesterday and are only in a non-relegation zone because of their better goal difference compared to Hansa.

Wiesbaden – Hertha BSC 3:1

Hertha repeatedly looked for a gap in Wiesbaden’s defense in the first half, but couldn’t find it. The home team then struck ice cold. Kovačević took the lead from a tight angle after Berlin keeper Ernst deflected a ball to the side.

The guests then took command in the second half. Tabaković had a huge chance to equalize, but was denied by Wehen goalkeeper Stritzel’s header (51′). In return, Kovačević scored again, steering a shot from Jacobsen from the backcourt into the goal from five meters.

Hertha hit back through Kenny, who fantastically put the ball into the corner from 18 meters. But even though the Berliners were pushing for an equalizer, they made it 1:3 after a counterattack through Goppel, who shot in from eleven meters.

Osnabrück – SC Paderborn 0-0

Paderborn’s midfielder was shown a yellow card after just ten minutes when he fouled VfL professional Engelhardt. Seven pointer revolutions later he was sent flying when he hit Cuisance in the foot.

Osnabrück was already better in the game before the yellow-red card, but the Lower Saxony team only rarely threatened the goal. In the second half it was Engelhardt who made it 1-0, but was denied by Boevik in the Paderborn goal (67′). Kühn parried a shot from Ansah on the other side (88th).

Hansa Rostock – SV Elversberg 2:1

An early Hansa goal didn’t count. Perea was offside (7th). Shortly before half-time, Schnellbacher shocked the home team. He headed a Vandermersch cross into the box in an exemplary manner.

Hansa tried hard in the second half. The equalizer came after a throw-in. Hüsing extended the ball to Dressel, who shot in with his left. A handball from Jäkel decided the game. The defender was rightly sent down with a red card. Pröger put the penalty kick flat into the left corner and caused the stadium to shake.
