Hertha BSC: Loaned Björkan before returning from Feyenoord in winter

Fourth club in 13 months?

Fredrik Björkan (24) will probably not flush the hoped-for 3 million euros into Hertha BSC’s coffers, which was agreed upon at the beginning of the loan with Feyenoord Rotterdam. That’s how high the purchase option is for the Norwegian left-back, who can’t match his form from Norway in the Eredivisie either and, according to the source “1908.nl”, who is very well informed about Feyenoord, could return to Berlin in the winter.

Accordingly, the player and club are looking for a solution to end the loan early. The Norwegian is one of seven players currently loaned out by Hertha – this septet has a total market value of 32.3 million euros. Hertha’s sports director Fredi Bobic said in the summer: “We spoke openly with Fredrik about his situation with us and together we came to the realization that a change is currently the best for his development. The most important thing is playing time. He should get that from Feyenoord.”

Since then, Björkan has only played 69 minutes on Matchday 5, then sat on the bench and did not make the squad for Sunday’s 3-1 win at Alkmaar. Hertha signed the national player on January 1, 2022 on a free transfer from FK Bodø/Glimt, who is said to have expressed an interest in returning in the summer and is said to be able to make another attempt next winter – in Berlin, where he played ten times Bjorkan under contract until 2026.

For Feyenoord, who are strong in the Eredivisie and sit 3rd just two points behind leaders Ajax Amsterdam, the Björkan loan is the only summer transfer that has fallen short of expectations. Coach Arne Slot, who has been in office since 2021, has already tested eight players in the left-back position since preparation. Björkan will probably no longer be part of the rotation in the second half of the season, because a return to Berlin is likely and from there it will probably go to the next club, according to “1908.nl”. If there is no comeback at FK Bodø/Glimt, Björkan’s new employer would be the fourth in 13 months.
