“Clear against the head of the Presidium”
Investor Lars Windhorst, who has acquired 64.7 percent of the shares in Hertha BSC KgaA for EUR 374 million since 2019, has joined the “Bild” TV show “Lage der Liga” for a timely change at the top of the capital club. Windhorst hopes that Hertha President Werner Gegenbauer will be dismissed.
“I am very clearly against the head of the Presidium and his followers. It is now high time that we turn things around. I am counting on the positive effects of a new start and we need this new start at the top as well,” said Windhorst. Gegenbauer has been president of the Berlin Bundesliga club since 2008 – in 2020 he was confirmed in office with 54 percent.

Windhorst advocates changes at the general meeting in May. “I counted on the fact that you can pull together with the leadership and the president, even despite the 50+1 rule. That hasn’t worked so far. It could be very easy uncomplicated. So far I have not commented on sporting matters. But after a few months it became clear to me that it is very difficult to work as a team under Gegenbauer’s leadership. He is not concerned with bringing about the sporting success of the club, but with maintaining power.
According to Windhorst, Hertha is currently “in a clique and cliquey” – he will only invest more money if “there are good people at the top of the club”. The investor made it clear that he himself was not interested in Gegenbauer’s post and would not nominate his own candidate. Although no presidential elections are planned for the general meeting in May, an application to have Gegenbauer voted out can be made. He treats the club like his “personal toy”.

Gegenbauer recently made it clear to “RBB” that there is still a clear boundary between the 16th table. and wanting to draw the investor. “The association guides and informs.
