Fredi Bobic wants to promote personnel change at Hertha BSC and has targeted BVB chief scout Markus Pilawa for this.
According to information from “sky” Hertha managing director Fredi Bobic plans to sign Markus Pilawa, who has worked for Borussia Dortmund since 2012. The 44-year-old should help lead the “old lady” into a more successful future.
According to the report, Pilawa should not be averse to a change and use the upheaval that will finally take place at BVB next summer to leave the club himself. His sponsor, sports director Michael Zorc, will be replaced by Sebastian Kehl and Pilawa can therefore also imagine leaving.
Hertha: Pilawa beckons ascent
Sports director Arne Friedrich is leaving Hertha and the BVB chief scout could fill the gap left by the 42-year-old. A larger task in a position with more responsibility awaited Pilawa in Berlin. He has bagged several top transfers for BVB in recent years and could certainly help the Berliners with his network. The first talks between Bobic and Zorc’s most important employee are said to have taken place as early as October. The two are said to have talked on the sidelines of a Hertha BSC U19 game.
Pilawa would not be the first scout from Borussia Dortmund to play a much more prominent role in other clubs. His predecessor Sven Mislintat left BVB at the end of 2017 and joined Arsenal as head of the scouting department before taking over the position of sports director at VfB Stuttgart in 2019.
Now Pilawa could have a similar career. However, the two clubs would first have to come to an agreement if concrete negotiations were to take place. The 44-year-old’s contract runs until 2023.
