Hertha BSC: Farewell to Niklas Stark confirmed – salary question crucial

Farewell officially

Hertha’s sporting director Fredi Bobic announced on Friday at the press conference before the Bundesliga duel against Bayer Leverkusen (Saturday, 3:30 p.m.) that Niklas Stark would be leaving. The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season. Bobic confirmed that “we’ve had a lot of talks behind the scenes over the year, but the bottom line is that he will end his contract at Hertha BSC and will certainly make a change.”

Stark may also feel internally that a change “could do him good,” Bobic continued, who also emphasized: “Unfortunately, economic issues have become much more important nowadays than sporting sometimes. You have to deal with the fact that it was difficult to make him an adequate extension offer.”

Farewell to Hertha BSC: Stark definitely wants to “get out on the red carpet”

As one of the longest-serving professionals in the squad, the central defender is one of the higher earners, with a departure the Berliners create space in the salary budget. His successor was already settled in the last winter transfer window with the signing of Marc Oliver Kempf (27), who was brought from VfB Stuttgart for 500,000 euros. Bobic is convinced that Stark will “do everything right until the end” for Hertha: “He certainly wants to stay up in the league so that he can get out here on the red carpet.”

Where long-running favorite Stark, who played the most of all outfield players at Hertha this season with 2,056 minutes, is open. What is certain is that it will only be the second transfer of the defender’s professional career after he left training club 1. FC Nürnberg for the capital seven years ago – at that time for a transfer fee of 3 million euros. Since then he has recorded 193 games (eight goals/four assists).
