He is the team’s offensive engine and top scorer: Fabian Reese has now extended his contract with Hertha BSC early.
Hertha BSC has extended the contract with top scorer and fan favorite Fabian Reese early. As the Berlin second division team announced on Thursday, the 26-year-old signed a new working paper until 2028. Reese’s contract previously ran until 2026. Reese moved from Holstein Kiel to Hertha last summer and immediately impressed with exceptionally good performances.
With ten goals and 14 assists, the fast wing player is not only the most successful Hertha player, but also one of the best players in the second division. From mid-December to the end of January, Reese had to take a break after a corona infection due to poor blood values.
Reese’s whereabouts are still not certain
“We know the value of Fabi: He is an absolute key player for us, always leads the way on and off the pitch with his inspiring manner. He also fully identifies with Hertha BSC, our values and our philosophy,” said Herthas Sports director Benjamin Weber. “I would like to set an example with the contract extension. I believe in the success and goals of our club and would like to return with Hertha BSC to where the club belongs: in the Bundesliga,” Reese was quoted as saying in the press release.
However, the signature is not a guarantee that the offensive player will stay in Berlin. The financially struggling Hertha could rely on transfer proceeds in the summer. Reese has also attracted attention from Bundesliga clubs with his performances. It was not announced whether the contract includes an exit clause.
