Reunion with coach Schwarz?
After just one year with 22 games and a total playing time of 765 minutes, the Hertha BSC chapter could already end for Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. The central midfielder, who switched from Ajax Amsterdam to the “Old Lady” for 3 million euros last summer, is said to be thinking of saying goodbye. In the first round of the DFB Cup when they lost to Eintracht Braunschweig, the 22-year-old was no longer part of the squad.

According to “Kicker”, the right foot could be drawn to Belgium, where champions FC Brugge and Royal Antwerp with coach Mark van Bommel are said to be interested. Any clubs would have to agree with the Berliners on a sale – Hertha’s preferred solution – of the Dutchman, whose contract in the capital runs until 2025.
In the event of Ekkelenkamp leaving, Hertha is said to have already considered a suitable successor who is also on the market free of charge: Jean-Paul Boëtius. According to the magazine, both parties are very interested in working together. The 28-year-old is currently keeping fit at his youth club Feyenoord Rotterdam after his working papers at FSV Mainz 05 expired, and he also went to the training camp. With a market value of 4 million euros, he is one of the ten most valuable midfielders without a contract.

Hertha BSC: Trainer Schwarz still knows Boëtius from FSV Mainz 05
The Dutchman knows Berlin’s coach Sandro Schwarz very well from their time together at Rheinhessen. Boëtius has played 3,109 minutes under the 43-year-old, only Ronald Koeman had more. Should there be a transfer, Boëtius would be the 16th Dutchman in the club’s history. So far, the club in the capital has only counted more representatives of a foreign nation in the group of 16 Brazilians. In the event of a change, both nations would draw the same level (to the statistics).
