Hertha BSC scored the first three on the 5th matchday in the Bundesliga and won 2-0 (0-0) against FC Augsburg, which was particularly weak in attack. Dodi Lukebakio scored the lead in the 57th minute. Marco Richter scored the final score in stoppage time.
The Berliners increased their points account to four points and jumped to 13th place in the table. FCA, on the other hand, suffered their fourth defeat in five games and are still on three points. The Augsburg occupy 15th place.
Black: “Earned victory”
“It was a good performance and a deserved win“, said Hertha’s coach Sandro Schwarz after the game of the sports show. “We were very stable on defense and then used our moments.” His team has already shown good performances in the past few weeks, “But then it’s not about waiting for the reward, it’s about being active in the game and working towards it.”
Augsburg coach Enrico Maaßen was disappointed on the sports show microphone. The hit to 0:1 was “the decisive moment” been. “I think it was an even game overall. After that, we didn’t have the punch to create even more dangerous goalscoring situations. Overall, we could play more, but there weren’t any clear chances.”
Few actions in the penalty area
Both teams started the game energetically and looked for the way forward. A lack of precision in the passes and many fouls on both sides ensured that little happened in the penalty areas at first.
Hertha had more of the game but were lucky not to be outnumbered after 23 minutes. Filip Uremovic lost out in a running duel with Ermedin Demirovic and knocked the Augsburger down just before the penalty area. But because there was still a Hertha player nearby, referee Harm Osmers did not decide to use the emergency brake and only gave the Berliner a yellow card.
Augsburg became dangerous in the first half mainly through Mergim Berisha. The Fenerbahce signing had the best chance of the game so far in the 28th minute when he hit the outside of the post from a tight angle. In the 35th minute, Chidera Ejuke had the chance to put Hertha BSC ahead, but flicked the ball just wide of the post. As a result, it was goalless in the cabins.
Lukebakio scores out of nowhere
The second half began leisurely with slight advantages for FCA. But after 57 minutes, Hertha suddenly led. Marvin Plattenhardt had time to cross down the left and found Lukebakio in the middle, who beat Mads Pedersen and headed the ball to make it 1-0.
Augsburg reacted angrily to being behind and immediately pressed for the equaliser. Elvis Rexhbeçaj’s header from the ball was all that came of it (63′).
Tousart forgives the decision
In the middle of the second half, the Berliners had survived the Augsburg pressure phase. In the 73rd minute it became dangerous again in front of the Augsburg goal. Wilfried Kanga failed after a cross from Lucas Tousart because of the well-reacting FCA keeper Rafal Gikiewicz. In the 82nd minute it was Tousart himself who had the decision on his head. He was free-standing from eight meters but put no pressure behind the ball.
Augsburg didn’t do much offensively in the final phase either. In stoppage time, Herthas Uremovic almost secured a point for Augsburg. But goalkeeper Oliver Christensen was on his toes.
From this action, however, a Berlin counterattack developed. Davie Selke and Richter ran alone towards the Augsburg goal. In the end, Richter easily pushed the ball into the goal (90+3). For Richter it was the first goal after his return from testicular cancer. “Very very emotional”said Judge. “I was really happy about that, also for the whole team.”
Augsburg to Bremen, Hertha to Leverkusen
Right at the beginning of the 6th matchday, things get serious for Augsburg away at Werder Bremen (Friday, September 9th, 2022 at 8:30 p.m.). A day later, Hertha welcomes Bayer 04 Leverkusen at home (3.30 p.m.).
