With the club since 2014
Captain Marvin Plattenhardt will leave Hertha BSC at the end of the season. Sports director Fredi Bobic confirmed on Thursday that the 30-year-old’s expiring working paper will not be extended. “The contract expires in the summer, that has been decided and clearly discussed with the player and his advisors,” said Bobic in an interview with the “picture“. Although Plattenhardt is set for the Berliners, there have been indications in recent months that his time in the capital will come to an end after nine years at the club.

At the beginning of December, the “kicker” said that Hertha had not yet approached Plattenhardt and that an extension seemed unrealistic, also for budgetary reasons. The former DFB player switched from 1. FC Nürnberg to the “Alte Dame” for 500,000 euros in 2014, for which he has played 221 games (8 goals/35 assists) since then. He has 14 appearances with three assists this season.
He recently caused a stir because he was unable to travel to the training camp in the USA because of his vaccination status and thus missed important preparation time with the team. “It’s his decision, we discussed it with him. You can’t force a player to get vaccinated. It was important to us that he could train – he does that in Berlin with the U23s,” said Bobic.
