Hertha BSC can remove Ascacibar from the payroll

The sporting and financially troubled Bundesliga club Hertha BSC can remove Santiago Ascacibar from the payroll.

The 26-year-old Argentinian’s home club, Estudiantes de la Plata, took the option to buy the defensive midfielder and signed the professional until December 2026, the club announced.

Ascacibar returned to his hometown club in January after failing on his six-month loan spell at Italian top flight side US Cremonese and previously in Berlin.

As Estudiantes further announced, the club will take over 90 percent of the rights, so that Hertha will have a ten percent stake in a possible resale. Ascacibar, who was signed by the then short-term coach Jürgen Klinsmann in January 2020, played 18 of 20 games for his home club and scored three goals.
