Hertha BSC: Bobic draws transfer conclusion – Da Costa and Alario “not feasible”

Four newcomers to Hertha BSC

According to managing director Fredi Bobic, the four newcomers to Hertha BSC are a mixture of direct help in the relegation battle and perspective players for the future. “I’m satisfied because we’ve done exactly what we set out to do,” said Bobic at a press conference on Tuesday. The two defenders Fredrik André Björkan (23), who came from Norwegian champions FK Bodø/Glimt, and Marc Oliver Kempf (27) from league rivals VfB Stuttgart could help the team immediately. Kempf is an experienced Bundesliga player “who works from now on afterwards”.

South Korean winger Dong-jun Lee (24; from Ulsan Hyundai) has a “certain imagination” and, according to Bobic, particularly impressed the capital club with his speed and his urge to go deep. The Frenchman Kelian Nsona (19), who was brought in from the French second division club SM Caen, is not yet ready to play after suffering a cruciate ligament rupture. His transfer is seen as an anticipation of the coming season. For the quartet, which together has a market value of 10.8 million euros, the “old lady” spent 1.8 million euros (for all winter transfers 2021/22). In addition, Anton Kade (18) from his own academy is now an integral part of the professional squad.

Marc-Oliver Kempf is the latest: Hertha has brought these players since Lars Windhorst joined in the summer of 2019 – a development from expensive players like Lucas Tousart to, also due to corona, free transfers with an eye like Fredrik André Björkan and Marc Oliver Kempf.

Hertha BSC: Bobic confirms interest in da Costa and Alario

Bobic also explained that they also looked at options for the right back position, but “at the end of the day nothing was feasible”. Now it’s about “strengthening” the two existing right-backs, Peter Pekarik (35) and Lukas Klünter (25). “It wasn’t about being actionist. We must not overload the squad and the individual positions. Adding too many players in an ongoing competition upsets the balance within the team.” The troubled Berliners are currently 13th in the Bundesliga with 22 points from 20 games (to the table).

One of the right-back candidates was Eintracht Frankfurt’s Danny da Costa (28), another Bayer Leverkusen striker Lucas Alario (29), as confirmed by the 50-year-old. “But even in those cases, we said it wasn’t feasible. That was done relatively quickly, the media wrote about it longer than it actually was. ”According to “Bild”, Hertha couldn’t come to an agreement with da Costa because of the contract period.

Da Costa, whose contract with SGE ends in 2022, was only option four in his position with the Hessians. Erik Durm (29), Almamy Touré (25) and Timothy Chandler (31) currently rank ahead of him. In addition to the “Old Lady”, he was also traded at FC Augsburg. Alario, on the other hand, is said to have initially moved to Brazil to Palmeiras São Paulo before Frankfurt and Hertha knocked. The attacker, who is unhappy with his role as a joker, will stay with the “Werkself” at least until the summer. His contract with Bayer 04 runs until the end of June 2024, but after the current season he can switch for 8 million euros due to an exit clause.
