Will be 37 in the fall
Peter Pekarik has extended his contract with Hertha BSC, which expired this summer, by another year until 2024. This was officially announced by the Bundesliga relegated on Wednesday evening. The right-back – and Hertha dubbed a “permanent favorite” – switched from VfL Wolfsburg to the “Old Lady” on a free transfer in 2012. Since then, the Slovak has made 226 appearances, six goals and 13 assists. Pekarik turns 37 on October 30 and is by far the longest-serving professional in the squad.
“Peka is Herthan through and through and knows this club inside out. Even if he is no longer in the front row, he will pass on his knowledge and experience. After his career, we offer him the opportunity to take his first steps as a coach in our academy,” said Hertha’s sports director Benjamin Weber.

Coach Pál Dárdai, who does without a few prominent names and sales candidates in the training camp, added: “I’ve been working with Peka for so long. He is a model professional, a role model and an important contact person for our young players. He will not only help the group on the pitch but also in the dressing room.” Pekarik explained: “It makes me proud to remain part of this special club. Everyone knows what the flag on my chest means to me: My heart beats for Hertha.”
