Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC is threatened with upheaval at the management level: After Oliver Bierhoff resigned as DFB director, the Berlin sports director Fredi Bobic is traded as his successor. How does the capital club react to a Bobic departure?
According to information from “Sport Bild”, Hertha BSC is preparing behind the scenes to say goodbye to Fredi Bobic. While it was initially speculated that the Berliners would bring an external manager on board, the trend is now more towards wanting to arrange the successor internally.
It is clear, however, that the experienced squad planner should in any case still complete the winter transfer period, which lasts until January 31st.
According to the sports newspaper, the hot candidate is leading player Kevin-Prince Boateng. The 35-year-old is considered an extension of head coach Sandro Schwarz. Due to his long career in professional football, which has taken him to a wide variety of countries, he is also considered to be well connected.
According to the report, clarifying who will replace Fredi Bobic in the event of a possible farewell to the DFB is also a top priority for Hertha decision-makers. Club President Kay Bernstein and his management team then have to answer the still unresolved investor question. However, it is said that the entry of the group of investors from “777” is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Bobic still has a contract with Hertha BSC until 2024
The 51-year-old Bobic only moved from Eintracht Frankfurt to Berlin in the summer of 2021 to bring the troubled club back into calm waters. Since then, Bobic has initiated many changes, but short-term sporting success has not yet materialized. His contract is actually valid until 2024.
Whether the DFB will actually hire the former national player could depend on two points: On the one hand, Bobic’s competencies have to be defined, according to reports he would want to be responsible for the youth academies in addition to the national team if he switched to the association. On the other hand, the financial aspect must be clarified, after all, Hertha allegedly paid around 2.5 million euros for Bobic to Frankfurt in the summer of 2021.
Hertha President Kay Bernstein had meanwhile made it clear in the “kicker” that there would be no obstacles to a change from Fredi Bobic. “You shouldn’t stop travelers,” said the 42-year-old.
