Hertha BSC | After a fight: the Berlin goalkeeper is threatened with the end

After a serious fight on the outskirts of the training camp in Austria, Marius Gersbeck from second division Hertha BSC has to face a media report with drastic consequences.

Goalkeeper Marius Gersbeck is threatened with Hertha BSC, reports “Bild”. A timely suspension is conceivable. The capital club had done something similar in the recent past, for example in the case of Rune Jarstein or Ivan Sunjic.

Since, unlike Jarstein or Sunjic, Gersbeck is now dealing with physical violence, a sporting future is almost impossible, according to the assessment. In addition: Gersbeck’s nocturnal excursion was not approved by the club.

Marius Gersbeck returned from his loan at Karlsruher SC just a few weeks ago. On the outskirts of the training camp in Zell am See, the 28-year-old was then taken into custody by the police on Sunday morning and interrogated at the local police station.

Hertha BSC confirms police investigation

As the Salzburg state police announced, there was a dispute early on Sunday morning that escalated into a physical altercation. A 22-year-old was injured so badly that he had to be treated in hospital and was initially unable to be heard. According to “Bild”, the victim lost at least one tooth as a result of Gersbeck’s attack, and his nasal bone was broken.

Hertha BSC then confirmed that “the police were investigating one of our players”, but the second division team did not initially provide any further information. According to “Bild”, Gersbeck was sent back to Berlin on Sunday evening to protect the team from the unrest that was now emerging.

According to the report, the bosses in Berlin will now discuss how to proceed in the Gersbeck case. Sports Director Benjamin Weber and Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf, Director Academy/Licensing Players Department, exchange views on this with Managing Director Thomas Herrich and Club President Kay Bernstein.
