Hertha BSC | 1. FC Köln: Salary waiver, transfer fee and Co.: Details of the Selke deal revealed

1. FC Köln have strengthened their squad with attacker Davie Selke from Hertha BSC. The Domstädter announced this on Monday. Details of the deal have also leaked out.

Selke gets a contract with FC until 2024. His contact with Hertha BSC would have expired next summer.

“Davie fits very well with our game idea and the striker profile we are looking for,” said Cologne’s managing director Christian Keller: “As a classic nine, he has his qualities in the box and still works immensely diligently against the ball.”

Selke should give the team “important impulses on and off the field with his mature personality”.

“What has developed at FC in the past year and a half could of course also be observed from afar. This positive impression was confirmed in the good discussions with those responsible,” explained Selke.

He wants to “work hard and, as a striker, preferably with goals, make my contribution to our success”.

1. FC Köln: Davie Selke waives salary

According to “Sky”, Selke will waive a large part of his salary for the change.

At Hertha BSC, the 27-year-old is said to have received up to four million euros a year, including bonuses. In Cologne he probably pocketed around two million euros.

Because of his high salary, the Berliners did not put any obstacles in his way when he made the move. A fee does not flow.

At 1. FC Köln, Selke should follow in the footsteps of Anthony Modeste. The top scorer switched to Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Since then, the team of coach Steffen Baumgart has been missing a real clipper.

Only two goals in 2022/2023 for Hertha BSC

However, Selke has had a hard time scoring goals lately. At Hertha BSC, the 2017 U21 European champions only played a supporting role.

After 14 competitive games in 2022/2023 there are only two goals and one assist in his statistics. He was only three times in the starting XI for the Berliners this season.

Nevertheless, there were allegedly other interested parties in addition to 1. FC Köln for the 1.95 meter man. He was last traded in Italy at Sampdoria Genoa and FC Empoli. The English second division club West Bromwich Albion was also said to be in the draw.
