A sense of achievement for Boris Herrmann one week before the start of the Ocean Race: the Hamburg sailor won the first harbor race in Alicante, Spain, with his team on the IMOCA yacht Malizia Seaexplorer.
“The boat felt good on the foils, the crew was very calm and worked well together,” said Herrmann after the success.
The first leg of the Ocean Race, which takes sailors around the world, starts next Sunday (January 15) and leads to Cape Verde. The harbor races are only part of the official classification if two or more teams are tied on points at the end of the six-month circumnavigation over seven stages (32,000 nautical miles).
Skipper Herrmann and his crew had to cope with a setback at the beginning of January. The foils of the yacht that was only presented last year had to be replaced. The technically overhauled boat worked on Sunday. “We had fun today and I’m a happy sailor,” said Herrmann.
