Heroes who come to the aid of others, these people from Brabant did it

Heroic acts provide the necessary bright spots in these gray days. For example, Marcus jumped into the cold water in Etten-Leur this weekend to save an old lady. And that was not the first heroic act this month. Dave rescued three children from a car that had ended up in a ditch in early January. An overview of remarkable heroic deeds in Brabant.

You don’t have to carry a mountain of life experience to be a hero. For example, ten-year-old Teun from Helmond saved his classmate when he became electrified during a class outing.

Together they were in a bumper car when his classmate got out of the car in bare feet because it had stopped. That turned out to be a life-threatening action because some floor parts are electrified. His classmate received an electric shock, fell to the ground and was unable to move. Teun didn’t hesitate for a moment and dragged his classmate to the side.

Was it life experience or mainly an indefinable feeling? Joke (68) certainly didn’t trust it when she saw a boy cycling past in Berkel-Enschot. She cycled back in his direction with her husband Jan. It turned out that the boy had already climbed over the fence near the railway.

In the distance the horns of an approaching train sounded. The boy sat emotionless on the rails. Jan, in a last-ditch rescue attempt, dived on the boy and rolled with him into the verge on the other side of the rails.

When Jan looked up, he saw a wagon passing by. Joke almost suffered a heart attack, but Jan and the boy were okay.

Not every hero escapes unscathed. For example, Daan (24) came to the rescue in an Eindhoven supermarket when a robber stabbed an employee with a knife. The employee was also put in a chokehold.

Daan pushed the robber to the ground but was also stabbed twice himself. Afterwards he reacts as heroes often do: “I had no choice. Doing nothing was not an option.”

Sometimes fate lends a hand. When the right people are around at the right time. Because Breda lawyer Peter Schouten did not feel like having fries after a carnival meeting, he ducked into a restaurant with his ‘entourage’ of security guards.

There was great panic in the restaurant at that moment, because someone had just had a heart attack. Lawyer Schouten’s security guards immediately knew what to do and were able to successfully resuscitate the man.

Sometimes a hero remains unknown. For example, Ingrid’s family was run off the highway near Eindhoven by a truck. Her car, containing her husband and son, ended up on the side some distance away.

Everything that happened after that is a big black hole for Ingrid. What she does know is that a driver of a black car calmed her down. He also helped her husband, he had a bag full of first aid supplies.

There was also a truck driver who blocked the road with his truck so that no traffic would pass by the family. Ingrid still wants to thank these helpful people for their good deed.
