Pianist Andrej Hermlin (58) is in a good mood, he is looking forward to his performance on April 13, 2023 in the Philharmonie: “It will be a very emotional reunion after all the lockdowns.”

The Berlin musician is coming with a large entourage – including his Swingin’ Hermlins and his Swing Dance Orchestra. They also present new songs together.

“We don’t just want to re-enact Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, so we wrote new songs and refreshed arrangements,” says the bandleader.

At the “Swing into Spring” concert, however, the hits and sounds of Miller, Goodman, Duke Ellington and other stars of the swing era are still on the program.

Andrej Hermlin sees swing as a remedy, saying, “In a way, it’s the answer to the crisis we’re in, just like the original music was an answer to the Great Depression in the 1930s.”

Swing is happy, elegant, the whole performance with musicians and dancers is an opportunity to escape the gray world with its conflicts for a while. Hermlin’s daughter Rachel (19) and son David (22) also contribute with singing and tap dancing.
