The loner has been living on a piece of land belonging to the Flemish Region since 2018. The council has long wanted him gone. Local residents complain, because the amount of waste and food leftovers attract vermin.
A solution has now been found for the man himself through the justice of the peace. He may continue to live there for a while, but in the meantime he will also be offered a home by the municipality of Spiere-Helkijn. Previously he refused all help.
