Hermès surprises with a significant increase in sales in the third quarter

The French luxury fashion house Hermès International was able to slightly increase its growth rate again in the third quarter of 2022 and thus significantly exceeded market expectations. In the months of July to September, sales of 3.14 billion euros were 32.5 percent above the corresponding level of the previous year, the company announced on Thursday. Adjusted for exchange rate changes, revenue grew by EUR 24.3 million.

The fashion retailer benefited above all from strong demand in Asia. There, quarterly sales increased by 41.1 percent (currency-adjusted +31.7 percent) to 1.85 billion euros. In America, sales increased by 36.4 percent (currency-adjusted +18.1 percent) to 536 million euros, in Europe they grew by 11.3 percent (currency-adjusted +11.7 percent) to 700 million euros.

In the first nine months of the current fiscal year, the group turnover was 8.61 billion euros. Compared to the same period of the previous year, this means an increase of 30.4 percent (+23.6 percent after currency adjustments). Sales of the prêt-à-porter collections and accessories developed at an above-average rate: The corresponding sales rose by 45.4 percent (currency-adjusted +38.1 percent) to 2.38 billion euros. In the largest category, leather goods, sales grew by 19.1 percent (currency-adjusted +12.5 percent) to 3.66 billion euros.
