The outgoing Nordic Combined national coach Hermann Weinbuch justified his impending retirement at the end of the season with the current mood in his team.
“The energy isn’t quite there anymore from my side. The young people, it’s even more special to work with them. My feeling tells me that maybe I can’t win 100 percent conviction with the boys and they can’t can motivate more 100 percent,” said Weinbuch in Oslo.
A week ago, the 62-year-old announced at the World Championships in Planica, Slovenia, that after more than two decades as head coach of the German Nordic Combined, he would end at the end of this winter.
Weinbuch made it clear that he would “certainly” continue to work as a coach. “And I hope I will continue to work for the Ski Association to keep our Nordic Combined in Germany at the top of the world.” Weinbuch’s flagship athlete Eric Frenzel also retires at the end of the season.
