Federal police officers uncovered the smuggling of seven people on the A15 near Bademeusel on Tuesday. Two of the men were in the trunk of a car.
As the federal police announced on Wednesday, emergency services checked a Skoda around 3:30 p.m. In addition to the driver, there were seven other people in the Polish rental vehicle. Four of the men sat in the three-person rear seat, with two more men in the trunk.
Neither the Ukrainian driver (28) nor the six Syrian and one Algerian national could present a residence permit. The federal police arrested the smuggler and the smuggled men between the ages of 17 and 38 for the time being.
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the 28-year-old for smuggling foreigners under life-threatening, inhuman and degrading treatment and endangering their health. He is scheduled to appear before a magistrate on Wednesday.
The smuggled persons are being investigated on suspicion of illegal entry or illegal stay.
