Activists from the Last Generation climate protection initiative blocked three streets at the Victory Column in Berlin on Monday morning.

About twelve people were involved in the action, some of them glued to the street, a police spokeswoman said on Monday. Police forces cleared the air-conditioning stickers from the streets with practiced hands.

The initiative made their protest clear on banners. Among other things, it read: “Government course in climate collapse = criminal”. The Last Generation announced that protests are planned in numerous German cities on Monday. At first there were no details.

With their actions, the last generation wants to increase the pressure on the federal government to take stronger action against the climate crisis. Among other things, she protests with road blockades. The group has given itself the name because it sees itself as the last generation before the tipping points, the critical limits of climate change. The initiative calls for a “socially just emergency plan”.
