During the past spring, Finland’s most beautiful home: Summer Homes program has visited 30 inspiring, beautiful and special summer places across the country.
It has accommodated all kinds of houses, from modern holiday homes to traditional, historic cottages.
Program Judges, Editor Hanna Sumari, interior designer Tero Pennanen and architect Sini Rainio, selected 10 finalists from among the 30 cottages. Of these, viewers voted Finland’s most beautiful summer cottage in 2022.
The winner was the wilderness cottage in Pelkosenniemi, Lapland, by an overwhelming majority.

Completed in 1993, the 40-square-foot cottage is completely electric and the water is carried from a winch well that looks like a house. Both the jury and the spectators were fascinated by the scenery, peace and authenticity of the traditional cottage.
– This is like a fairy tale. Somehow it goes pretty, Rainio described the atmosphere of the cottage in the episode.
– A super atmospheric place, here you feel warm in your arms, Sumari said.
– This is a place that grabs a big hug, and you can’t get away terribly quickly, Pennanen said.
The comments of the spectators who took part in the vote shone through the same impressions of the cottage as those of the judges who visited the site. Peace and authenticity also appealed to them:
– A muted object in the middle of the wilderness. Silence and authenticity were also transmitted through television.
– Perfect cottage in a great location. Nothing useless, just nature and stunning buildings. It would be great to spend your free time in such a place.
– A place where life becomes simple and the sense of time disappears. Like the home of the past.
Winnings introduced
The profit cottage is owned by siblings Heidi and Henna Steep together with Heidi’s wife Christoph Hermlen with. The winning title, which came with the voices of the spectators, feels wonderful for the sisters. One knew how to expect a profit, the other did not.
– Yes, we know for ourselves that our cottage is special and different. But that Finland’s most beautiful, it’s amazing. I couldn’t at all assume we could win this, Heidi says.
– I did believe in our victory all the time! This has always been the most beautiful cottage in Finland for me, Henna laughs.
The profit brings with it 10,000 euros, and there are already many possible uses for the money.
– We have a lot of things to fix here. The cottage is angled, it definitely needs to be straightened. The roof of a normal sauna needs to be renewed. The wooden shed is a bit bad, too, and the lid of the well needs to be sealed, Henna lists.
– Longitudinal trees have also been thought to be improved and lengthened, everyone likes them, Heidi adds.
The best thing about the cottages is the tranquility and diverse nature.
– Nature is so genuinely present here, they add up.
