Herbert impressed by the EM euphoria: “Never seen it like this”

National basketball coach Gordon Herbert is enthusiastic about the current euphoria at the home European Championships with games in Cologne and Berlin.

“The Arena was a sixth man for us. The fans jumped to our side and helped us in difficult situations. I’ve never seen such an atmosphere in Germany,” said the 63-year-old head coach at a press conference in the team hotel in Cologne . Germany has won all three games so far and thus made the best start to the European Championship in history.

The arena was sold out with 18,017 spectators in each of the three games. It should be the same on Tuesday against European champions Slovenia with NBA star player Luka Doncic. “We want to get through top of the group, that will help us as the tournament progresses. We still have two important games to play. It’s nice that we’re in the round of 16, but we still have plans,” said center Johannes Thiemann.
