The Herbert Grönemeyer single “Mensch” was released 20 years ago, a song that became the soundtrack of the Oder flood disaster and also deals with the death of Grönemeyer’s wife Anna Henkel. Now the song is honored with two more versions – a rap song and a French version.
A tribute to Grönemeyer
Grönemeyer announced this on his Instagram account on Thursday. “Es istoka, Mensch (2022)” was produced by the Hamburg artist Ace Tee, pop singer Balbina and the Berlin rapper Ebow and is intended to be a modern homage to “Mensch” and its singer. Balbina accompanied Grönemeyer in 2015 on his “Dauernd Now” tour.
The title is derived from Grönemeyer’s refrain line “And it’s okay”. Grönemeyer’s voice isn’t entirely banished from the song – it was recorded on the track in the form of samples from the original. The French version of “Mensch” is entitled “Humaine” (in English: human). It was reinterpreted by French singer and actress Camille Dalmais.
