June 3, 2023 was a night to remember for Leipzig: while Herbert Grönemeyer was performing in front of around 40,000 fans in the city’s Red Bull Arena, RB Leipzig were simultaneously beating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the DFB Cup final in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. It goes without saying that the musicians from Bochum insisted on congratulating the people of Leipzig on winning the cup.
What exactly Grönemeyer called out to the fans that evening cannot be clearly understood from the videos of the evening circulating on Twitter – according to eyewitnesses, it must have been something like “You are cup winners!”.

But that’s not all: As reported by “LVZ Sport”, Grönemeyer kept the fans up to date on the score and announced the 1-0 lead by Christopher Nkunku in the 71st minute of the game.

37 songs and lots of hits
Grönemeyer’s love of football is nothing new – however, his heart should continue to beat primarily for VfL Bochum and not for RB Leipzig. The people of Leipzig will probably forgive him: After all, the musician played a 37-song concert that included hits like “Flugzeuge im Bauch”, “Bochum”, “Alkohol”, “Kinder an diemacht” and “Mensch”. like pieces from his current album “Das ist los”.
