Kenyan running greatness Henry Rono is dead.
He was 72 years old when he died.
In his gallant career, Rono ran five world records: at 3000 meters, 3000 meters steeplechase, 5000 meters twice and 10,000 meters. The steeplechase record, run in Seattle in the spring of 1978, lasted more than 11 years.
Rono was never able to measure his speed at the Olympic or World Cup level. Kenya boycotted both the Montreal and Moscow Olympics, and the first World Championships did not take place until after her career.
