Henny Huisman gets a sneer from another TV senior: ‘Don’t whine so much’

Henny Huisman is very upset because he does not receive an invitation to the Televizier gala, but is that justified? Gerard Cox thinks it’s an affectation. “Don’t whine so much.”

For years it was a bit irritating, but nowadays it is somewhat endearing: Henny Huisman (72) has felt for decades that he is a kind of legendary TV figure who should be respected, but does not receive recognition. Now he is angry again at the Televizier gala, because as a former winner he does not receive an invitation every year.

Posturing

Henny was asked to present a prize, but he refused because he wants an invitation every year. But Carré is not that big and if you also have to invite all the former winners of all the prizes every year, they can add another level. Anyway, Henny is angry. He wants to be in the royal box every year.

As a fellow TV senior, what does Gerard Cox think of that? Does he understand Henny or is this just posturing? The latter, he thinks. “I haven’t received an invitation for years, but that’s how it goes. While we won the Ring in 1999 with Toen Was Geluk Heel Won. But you should never complain about that, that’s just the way it is,” he says Weekend.

‘It ends’

You cannot be held in high regard all your life, Gerard continues. “At a certain point that will stop. I don’t mind that, no, new people will come and that’s how it should be.”

Gerard wouldn’t even want to go there anymore. “Well, that is becoming less and less as the years go by. Then I think: you guys should go party, as long as I don’t have to be there. I’m sure the party hasn’t gotten any worse, but I just don’t feel the need to go there as much.”
