Hennings lets Fortuna Düsseldorf cheer – Darmstadt defeats Sandhausen

2. Bundesliga on Friday

Fortuna Düsseldorf continued the series of successes in front of their own audience and pushed SC Paderborn off the top of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga. After the 2-1 win at 1. FC Magdeburg on Friday evening, Düsseldorf, who have been undefeated at home for six months, also won against Paderborn 2-1 (2-1) and initially sat at the top of the table. The East Westphalians celebrated a 5-0 win against Karlsruher SC last weekend.

The Rhinelanders, who have suffered just one defeat in 15 games under their coach Daniel Thioune, took a 1-0 lead after 81 seconds in front of 22,634 fans thanks to Dawid Kownacki’s lightning start.

In an intense game well worth seeing, the guests equalized through Felix Platte (21′) before goalscorer Rouwen Hennings brought the hosts back into the lead (30′). Paderborn still had good chances to make it 2-2 through Platte, but could no longer overcome Fortuna’s defence.

SV Darmstadt celebrates three points against SV Sandhausen

Darmstadt 98 celebrated their first win in the second game of the season. The fourth-placed team last season won against SV Sandhausen 2-1 (1-1) and thus showed the reaction required by coach Torsten Lieberknecht to the defeat at the start of the season in Regensburg. In front of 13,620 spectators in the sold-out Böllenfalltor stadium, Braydon Manu (9th) and Marvin Mehlem (55th) scored the goals for the Hessians. Aleksandr Zhirov (24th) scored for Sandhausen to equalize in the meantime.

The home side set the tone from the start. Manu used the second good opportunity with a shot from the left side of the penalty area into the top right corner for an early lead. In the middle of the first half, Zhirov scored a surprising equalizer for the Palatinate from a free kick with a well-placed shot in the right corner.

Before the break, the more active Darmstadt players were lucky that a shot by Janik Bachmann (38th) from six meters was too unplaced. After the change, Mehlem put the Hessians back in the lead after a remarkable one-two with Manu. In the last half hour, the game became more divided. The toughness of the duel increased, and there were hardly any dangerous situations.
