The 55-year-old trainer decided earlier this year to leave Sparta after this season, but wanted to finish the job at Het Kasteel well by keeping the club in the Eredivisie. After technical director Henk van Stee left due to an internal conflict, Fraser also considered leaving, but out of loyalty with the group, the trainer decided to finish the season.
Sparta is in great danger of relegation and has had a bad weekend. The Rotterdammers themselves lost at FC Twente, while the competitors Willem II, PEC Zwolle and Fortuna Sittard won.
The immediate reason for Fraser’s resignation is that Sparta immediately wanted to say goodbye to assistant coach Aleksandar Rankovic to give an impulse to the coaching staff. Fraser could not agree to this and decided to resign his own position. Fraser will become FC Utrecht’s trainer next season, with whom he has agreed a three-year contract.
