Further Zoff about the hot topic “bouncing” in Formula 1: Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko has criticized both the behavior of the competition from Mercedes and the reaction of the world association FIA.
“I don’t think the FIA’s decisions are right. One team, Mercedes, has the biggest problems and then you react in the middle of the season,” said Marko on the sidelines of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal on the “Sky” microphone.
In his view, there is “a simple solution,” said the 79-year-old Austrian. “You just have to put the cars higher. Then they no longer have this bouncing, but they lose speed. The fact that people are reacting like this and trying to impose such powers on the FIA, which practically determine the settings of the cars, is a quick shot that’s for sure not thought through.”
Exchange of blows between Christian Horner and Toto Wolff
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner had previously spoken out against measures intended to regulate the hopping of Formula 1 cars.
This in turn had prompted his Mercedes counterpart Toto Wolff to criticize it.
“I think it’s okay if there are political disputes about who can gain a little performance and where. But some take it lightly when it comes to driver safety,” said Wolff.
Formula 1: Helmut Marko calls for “improvements”
Marko, however, sees the responsibility of the teams themselves. “Our drivers are one of the greatest assets we have. We make sure that they are in top physical condition,” said the former racing driver.
Marko also criticized the FIA’s plan to take measures against bouncing at the British GP in Silverstone in two weeks’ time: “There still need to be improvements because all the parameters are far too risky. You would be giving yourself up to arbitrariness . That would mainly affect the team that complained about it.”
