The fashion label Helmut Lang has appointed Peter Do to the role of creative director.
Helmut Lang announced on Wednesday that Do will take up his new position effective May 15. He will take over all creative tasks for the women’s and men’s collections. His first collection is planned for the SS24 season and will be presented during New York Fashion Week in September.
The designer will also work in New York at the Helmut Lang Design Studio. This is part of the Design and Innovation Center of the Japanese clothing retailer Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. – Parent company of brands like Helmut Lang and Uniqlo. He reports to Dinesh Tandon, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Helmut Lang.
“I look forward to learning from the foundation on which this house stands and continuing to design new, energetic clothing that inspires people to expand their understanding of what’s possible when it comes to expressing their individuality, to question,” Do writes in an Instagram post on Wednesday.
About Peter Do
Peter Do studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and was awarded the Graduate Prize by the French luxury group LVMH in 2014. He then worked for Celine and Derek Lam. In 2018 he founded the label of the same name in New York with a group of longtime friends. Last year he was also among the finalists of the French young talent prize Andam Fashion Award.
“Last year, as I pondered the next step in my career, one thing remained constant even as everything else felt uncertain. I had to keep doing my part to ensure that the city I love the most becomes once again the center of gravity for everyone who cares about radical thinking in fashion.” “In the most formative days of my own fashion education, nobody embodied this spirit quite like Helmut Lang. It is therefore a great honor for me to be entrusted with leading the next chapter of Helmut Lang’s legacy.”
