A 22-year-old man from Helmond who was stabbed in Rotterdam on Wednesday has died in hospital. A 19-year-old man from Spijkenisse has been arrested as a suspect.
The Helmonder was stabbed on the Korte Lijnbaan in the center of Rotterdam. That happened around one o’clock in the afternoon. The victim was resuscitated on the street and rushed to hospital. He died of his injuries there on Wednesday evening.
It is not yet clear why the man was stabbed. Several people saw it happen. Witnesses tell RTV Rijnmond that just before the stabbing, a group of young people were at McDonald’s, some of them wearing balaclavas.
When an argument broke out within the group, one of them pulled out a knife. Another witness saw how the victim was first beaten and then stabbed several times in the stomach.
The victim is said to have fled into McDonald’s. The perpetrator ran away, but was apprehended shortly afterwards.
