‘Hélène Hendriks wants Johan Derksen to think she’s cool’

Hélène Hendriks causes annoyance with her conservative opinions about transgressive behaviour. “Do you want Johan Derksen to think you’re cool?”, says Yvonne Coldeweijer.

She is starting to become a bit like the female Ruud de Wild: Hélène Hendriks. The presenter is in the news all the time because she has once again downplayed transgressive behavior. She thinks we should pay more attention to the male perpetrators of misconduct, but where is her compassion for the female victims?

Bad blood

Hélène has been making very questionable statements lately. Two cases stand out. For example, she defended her colleague Jack van Gelder by saying that the woman he mistreated at NOS, Aïcha Marghadi, later also worked with him at Ziggo Sport. “And that went well,” she says. “At least, that’s what Jack says.”

That comment is so colored that even her colleagues from Today Inside could not contain their laughter. But Hélène really got into bad blood by emphasizing that she really was never bothered by Jack. “It is a scandalous remark, because you actually disqualify what others say,” says critic Lars Duursma.

Victim blaming

The case is even more dubious victim blaming what Hélène showed last week as a presenter of HLF8. She suggested in that talk show that Jeroen Rietbergen’s victim is constantly changing her story. That is complete nonsense and she was immediately corrected in the studio by AD journalist Victor Schildkamp.

Yvonne Coldeweijer thinks it’s really ridiculous, she says in her podcast The Juice Show. She points out that Hélène hid behind “critics” who would claim this. “Wow, what do you mean, critics? Who do you mean by critics? Is this just a way to… Are you a pick me girl, Helene? Do you spend too much time with men?”

Pick me girl

Pick-me girls are women who very much pretend to see things from a male perspective so that they are well liked by the opposite sex. “Do you want Johan Derksen to think you’re cool?” Yvonne wonders. “Because this is not cool, Hélène. This is not cool, saying someone changes their story.”

It is just absolutely untrue what Hélène proclaims here about Voice victim Nienke Wijnhoven, according to Yvonne. “Nienke has never changed her story. Never. It’s just snowy. What is she doing, Helene? This is not cool!”

Short preparation

Co-host Mark Koster asked around why Hélène said this. “We have been told that Hélène has let people know that this question may not have been entirely the intention after all, and she attributes that to a short preparation. Then I also think: Hélène, you shouldn’t ask that like that, should you?”

Yvonne wonders if Hélène might have been influenced by someone. Jeroen is the lover of the boss’s sister. “Who said to her: ‘Yes, maybe you should just ask if that is really the case with that Nienke?’ Who said that to her? Because then she just parroted someone.”

Mark: “Yes, she has parroted someone, we will not find out, but there has been a parrot. (…) She actually started to speak a bit on behalf of the family, the De Mol family. At least, it seemed that way.”
