The viewing figures of Today Inside have long been seen as some kind of unique achievement, but Hélène Hendriks scores just as well. “This threatens their salary negotiations.”
Wilfred Genee, René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen have been making the most watched talk show in the Netherlands for years: their program Today Inside attracts a million viewers every day. They are considered the pillar that upholds the entire SBS 6 and can therefore actually ask for whatever they want in terms of salary. But that seems to be slowly changing…
Hélène threat?
The VI trio has trained Hélène Hendriks so well that she now scores just as well with her own talk show De Oranjewinter, and earlier De Oranjezomer. She has had a very good week and there will be another week before the men of VI return. With almost exactly the same viewing figures as VI.
Ratings authority Tina Nijkamp writes on her analysis channel: “Exactly the same numbers as VI. What a hit for Hélène and for the team. If you manage to score as high as VI all week, it is incredibly special. Fortunately, the men have just signed a new contract, because in terms of salary negotiations these kinds of scores do not work out well. 😂”
‘Be afraid?’
Jordi Versteegden, star reporter for De Telegraaf, is worried about Wilfred, Johan and René. “Do you think that the men of Today Inside should be afraid of the success of Hélène Hendriks at the moment?” he asks in the podcast. Strictly Private.
Colleague Evert Santegoeds: “Well, that is fairly distributed now. But hey, as long as they do what they were hired to do, I don’t think they’re in any danger. But threatening to leave becomes a bit more difficult, because at SBS they simply say: ‘Well, fortunately we have prepared Hélène Hendriks for this job.’”
Pretty quiet
That has ‘become a bit more difficult for them’, says Evert. “But it’s pretty quiet around the men. No major outliers, no arguments, no incidents.”
Jordi: “No candle.”
Evert: “No candle. And yes, as long as that is the case, they can coexist perfectly of course.”
Jordi: “Yes, well, if I were SBS, I would just say: Hélène Hendriks from now on two days in the weekend, then you will have a wonderful talk show seven days a week.”
Too much
That will be too muchEvert fears. “Yes, I don’t know. Then it will be very much the same. But I think you should also save Hélène for those long vacations of the men. And then it will really be a summer of sports this year with the European Championships and the Olympic Games. So there’s still plenty to do with your friend Hélène, because you’ll be there next week, right?”
Jordi: “That could just be possible. If I am not cancelled, I will be there next Wednesday.”
