According to Hélène Hendriks, we should not exaggerate when it comes to the riots that break out after every World Cup win by the Moroccan national team. She mainly focuses on the positive. “We have all fallen a bit in love with the Moroccan national team,” she says in De Oranjewinter broadcast last night.

World Cup riots

What does Hélène think of the riots? “Of course we are now very much pointing to what is happening with the Moroccan Dutch, but look at an average football match in the Eredivisie. There’s plenty going on there too. Enough fights too. Also with the Dutch national team when we lose, so it is really not that this is unique.”

Colleague Wilfred Genee: “Yes, but you can almost adjust to it now and that’s a bit annoying.”

It could just be that the unrest will continue for a while, says Hélène. “They can just become world champions, eh, with this. I really think so!”

Structural problem

Johan Derksen thinks differently than Hélène. He says: “It is a structural problem, because it is not only with football, because in the big cities the crime figures are dominated by Moroccan youth. That is the case in every major city, so it is quite a problem.”

Many viewers of De Oranjewinter think that way as Johan and Hélène is under fire on Twitter. “Hélène is nice, but you can also go too far to be liked by everyone…”, says Theo.

And Koos: “Hélène, stop with that politically correct woke opinion about Morocco!”

Virtue cap

The viewers of VI really go wild on Hélène. That’s how Peet calls her a ‘virtue hat’. And Sandra: “According to Hélène, supporters of clubs also riot here if they lose. Morocco won everything, didn’t it?”

Tom: “Hélène, in an average Eredivisie match, riot police and ambulance personnel are not attacked and shot at with heavy fireworks… Nuance is often good and necessary, but you were just as wrong here.”

Bert: “Shut your mouth, Hélène, you are talking gibberish!”

And Babiche: “Hélène Hendriks is talking about the rioting Moroccans. ?”

Helen responds

Hélène responds to the fierce criticism. She says: “For when it just wasn’t clear enough. I condemn all riots in every situation and within all groups, but I think every sane person does that. Close your eyes to nothing. Have a nice weekend :-)”

One Steven then: “I couldn’t quite follow you. Well, on and on, have a good weekend.”
