Hélène Hendriks gets a huge gust of wind in her face. Opinion tornado Victor Vlam makes itself heard and expresses strong criticism of the SBS 6 star. “She’s a bit disappointing to me.”
She is undeniably a crowd favorite: Hélène Hendriks. The presenter is embraced by the SBS 6 viewer and currently scores better than predecessor Marcel & Gijs with her summer VI replacement De Oranjezomer. Nevertheless, Victor Vlam, an authority in the field of spicy TV opinions, finds her somewhat disappointing in terms of content.
Unaccustomed Hél’ene
Victor, who was approached by Quinty Trustfull a while ago against his will, is critical. “I think it’s an entertaining program in itself, but Hélène Hendriks as a presenter is a little bit disappointing. Although she has a certain sympathy, I also think that she still comes across as very unfamiliar.”
He continues in the juicy media podcast The Communicados: “I find her unfamiliarity astonishing, because she has of course presented many episodes of HLF8 and that was actually a comparable program. They are a lot of the same guys, so I just expected it to be more routine.”
Mirror neurons
With that much experience you should be a lot more relaxed behind that table, says Victor. “The disadvantage of a presenter who is not comfortable is that it is also more difficult to watch as a viewer. You feel yourself a little bit left out. It’s those mirror neurons. That makes you feel that very strongly.”
He continues: “And actually what Hélène Hendriks needs more is a little bit poise. That’s a British word that the British use to describe someone who is very good at hiding negative emotions, such as shame and discomfort. Eva Jinek can do that really very well. She is very poise as a speaker.”
Not at ease
Victor has that less with Hélène Hendriks. “She is sympathetic, but sometimes I find it uncomfortable. Also during her interaction with Eus I thought a few times: not quite at ease yet.”
Co-host Lars Duursma: “Yes, and will that come?”
“Is it coming?”
Victor strongly doubts that. “So I would think that because she’s presented so much HLF8 already, if it’s not there yet, will it come? It’s possible. But she does need a lot of time. I expected her to be further in her development anyway.”
