The rise of Hélène Hendriks has barely started when someone is already sawing at the legs of her chair. Her colleague Merel Ek would also like to have her own talk show.
Not Eva Jinek, but Hélène Hendriks is currently the highest-scoring female talk show host in the country. She is on the rise: her talk show De Oranjezomer/De Oranjewinter scores about as well as Today Inside. Her market value has risen considerably, but in the meantime someone has started sawing at her chair legs again.
Merel wants to present
Merel Ek, the star reporter of Today Inside, had a conversation with Frans Klein, Talpa’s new television boss. She has told him what her ambitions are and there is no doubt about it: her own program is on her wish list, and that could possibly also be a talk show.
She tells in the section In The Walkways: “Yes, it was a really nice conversation. I think Frans is a very nice man. Not necessarily new things, but I have just expressed what I like. I think it would be nice to eventually – and this is not immediately – simply present it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a talk show.”
‘It goes in steps’
Well, that doesn’t necessarily have to be a talk show right now, Wilfred Genee concludes: “Not immediately? Not immediately? A little later if possible?”
Merel: “That is also possible. Look, I don’t even know if I can do it, do I?”
In other words: Merel’s talk show ambitions are true to life. Wilfred: “Pippi Longstocking always said it, right? ‘As long as I don’t know it, I’m sure I can do it.’”
Merel: “Exactly. Well, that’s the right attitude here, of course. It goes in steps. But nothing new, in principle.”
Threat from Merel
The threat from Merel is serious. She was brought to SBS 6 by colleague Sam Hagens and she managed to completely overshadow him in no time, says media critic Victor Vlam. “It is really intense for Sam, of course, because they are competitors,” he said earlier.
After Sam, should Hélène also worry about this rising star of VI? “In any case, Merel really adds something.”
