It could be that Hélène Hendriks will reap the benefits of the new one dirt about Matthijs van Nieuwkerk. Can she still go to Paris on behalf of SBS 6? “Could just be.”
Not only Hélène Hendriks, but also Matthijs van Nieuwkerk appears to be working on a daily program during the Olympic Games in Paris. The presenter revealed on Friday evening Today Inside that she already knew about this, because Matthijs’ show will not allow her to broadcast from the Parisian capital. She left open why that is.
Bag of money
Tina Nijkamp, the former channel boss of SBS 6, emphasizes her analysis channel that Hélène shouted that she was also ‘in the race for [naar Parijs] to go’. “It was a subordinate clause, but it made a lot clear. That can only mean one thing: there is a very large sponsor behind this with a lot of money.”
She continues: “That sponsor wrote a pitch and RTL won. Common in TV. I also recognize this, for example, in the New Year’s Eve draw during New Year’s Eve with a countdown show. The Dutch Lottery always wrote a pitch between RTL and SBS.”
What does sponsor think?
RTL may have won such a pitch, but no sponsor will want to be associated with sexually or physically inappropriate behavior, according to Tina. “Now ask: what does that sponsor think of the new allegations? Or will the sponsor still choose SBS 6? Could just be. And then this program for RTL 4 will NOT continue.”
Tina is ‘very curious’ who that sponsor is. “Presumably that is The Dutch Lottery. They are the main sponsor of TeamNL and love writing pitches.”
Too expensive
The Dutch Lottery is the company behind the Staatsloterij, Lotto, Euro Jackpot and Lucky Day, among others. Do they want to continue with Matthijs? “Unlike at the NPO, Matthijs has to deal with advertisers and possibly advertisers at RTL branded content in programs. Unlike the NPO, which receives money from the government, commercial channels live off it.”
So Matthijs not only has to convince a channel, but also a sponsor. “The Olympic Games program is probably fully or largely financed by an advertiser or advertisers. Otherwise it would be far too expensive for RTL in the summer. Then it costs more than it yields.”
Still going to Hélène?
If the sponsor does not like the program with Matthijs because of this latest fuss, it is possible that another pitch will be written and Hélène will still win a prize.
It would be a safer alternative anyway: the chance that Hélène will be mentioned in some report is extremely small and moreover, she is loved by many more people than Matthijs.
