Due to the 0-0 draw against AZ, second place in the Eredivisie has fallen even further out of sight for Ajax. The gap with PSV, which is second, is now five points. John Heitinga’s Ajax must hope for a miracle in the remaining three matches if it wants to come out in the Champions League next season.

The only 17-year-old Jorrel Hato saw that Ajax destroyed many great opportunities against the Alkmaarders. “If you look at the game image, I think we did pretty well. We also created a number of great opportunities. I think it’s because we didn’t finish our chances,” said Hato.
After losing the cup final against PSV, the draw against AZ was yet another disappointment for Heitinga and Ajax. The team from Amsterdam was also treated to a whistle concert by their own home crowd after the first half. “You know at Ajax the pressure is always high. I have experienced that myself as a player here. Ajax should normally always play the Champions League. If you don’t achieve that in 34 games, then that is the hard reality.”
Ajax will play the last three matches of the season against FC Groningen (away), FC Utrecht (home) and FC Twente (away).
