John Heitinga has to leave as head coach at Ajax. The coach is making way after the disappointing results of the past few months. Heitinga could not bring Ajax further than a third place in the Eredivisie.
This brings an end to four turbulent months for the young trainer. He took over from Alfred Schreuder, who was fired in January because Ajax already lost many points in the competition. Heitinga was unable to make up for the backlog against Feyenoord and PSV. No top competition was won, and Ajax flew out against Union Berlin in the Europa League.
Ajax finished third in the competition and did not reach the Champions League, something that the team from Amsterdam has had a subscription to for some time. Next season, Ajax will act on the second European stage, the Europa League. Heitinga did reach the cup final against PSV, but that too was lost.

Technical director Sven Mislintat informed Heitinga that his time as head coach is over. The Amsterdam club needs a more experienced coach, but wants to keep Heitinga for the club. Whether that will happen is currently uncertain.
